{"schema":"threatline.record/2","record":{"id":"CVE-2026-92975","aliases":[],"summary":"Groundhogg <= 4.8.3 - Unauthenticated Privilege Escalation to Support User Identity Confusion","details":"The Groundhogg — CRM, Newsletters, and Marketing Automation plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Privilege Escalation in all versions up to, and including, 4.8.3 via the `create_support_user()` function. This is due to the function identifying the support account solely by matching against publicly hardcoded constants — `user_login` `'groundhogg'` and email addresses `'support@groundhogg.io'` / `'help@groundhogg.io'` — where the `in_array()` email-equality check at line 238 is not a security boundary because any user fully controls their own email value. This makes it possible for an attacker with an account whose `user_login` is `'groundhogg'` and whose `user_email` matches one of the hardcoded support constants to have that account silently promoted to administrator — and additionally to super admin on multisite when the triggering administrator holds `manage_network_options` — resulting in full site takeover. Exploitation requires a two-actor flow: the attacker must first obtain or pre-plant an account with the hardcoded credentials (possible when open user registration is enabled or another account-creation path exists), after which a legitimate administrator must invoke the support-access feature via the `submit_ticket` or `process_send_support_access` entry points to trigger the promotion.","categories":["Unclassified"],"product":"Groundhogg — CRM, Newsletters, and Marketing Automation","vendor":"trainingbusinesspros","ecosystem":null,"affected_ranges":[{"source":"CVE List","source_url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-92975","source_modified_at":"2026-10-11T16:55:17.216Z","fetched_at":"2026-10-23T18:48:36.087640Z","product":"Groundhogg — CRM, Newsletters, and Marketing Automation","vendor":"trainingbusinesspros","versions":[{"version":"0","status":"affected","lessThanOrEqual":"4.8.3","versionType":"semver"}],"defaultStatus":"unaffected"}],"fixed_versions":[],"cvss":8.1,"severity":"High","kev":{"listed":false},"epss":{"probability":0.00352,"percentile":0.27651,"score_date":"2026-10-23"},"published_at":"2026-10-10T05:31:03.178Z","modified_at":"2026-10-11T16:55:17.216Z","provenance":[{"source":"CVE List","url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-92975","fetched_at":"2026-10-23T18:48:36.087640Z","source_modified_at":"2026-10-11T16:55:17.216Z"},{"source":"EPSS","url":"https://api.first.org/data/v1/epss?cve=CVE-2026-92975","fetched_at":"2026-10-23T18:42:43.628194Z","source_modified_at":"2026-10-23"}],"sources":["CVE List","EPSS"],"references":[{"source":"CVE List","url":"https://www.wordfence.com/threat-intel/vulnerabilities/id/c355658a-515a-48ed-a114-6a202e23e34b?source=cve"},{"source":"CVE List","url":"https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/groundhogg/tags/4.8.1/admin/help/help-page.php#L250"},{"source":"CVE List","url":"https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/groundhogg/tags/4.8.1/admin/help/help-page.php#L224"},{"source":"CVE List","url":"https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/groundhogg/tags/4.8.1/admin/help/help-page.php#L238"},{"source":"CVE List","url":"https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/groundhogg/tags/4.8.1/admin/help/help-page.php#L298"},{"source":"CVE List","url":"https://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/browser/groundhogg/tags/4.8.1/admin/help/help-page.php#L599"},{"source":"CVE List","url":"https://github.com/groundhoggwp/groundhogg/commit/4b413aa6e"}],"locations":[],"motoko_assessment":{"status":"requires_architecture_review","automatic_remediation":false},"cve_state":"PUBLISHED","cvss_source":"CVE List","ssvc":{"exploitation":"none","automatable":"no","technical_impact":"total","assessed_at":"2026-10-11T16:37:46.153788Z"},"classification":{"method":"product-first software-layer rules","rules_version":"2.1","matched_on":null,"confidence":"unknown","reviewed":false},"change_timestamp":"2026-10-11T16:55:17.216Z","content_hash":"ce31bf45a73fa5c649bc01007a66a95b21e9c74ce5fbc7f67faa5f00c419c8cf"}}
