{"schema":"threatline.record/2","record":{"id":"CVE-2026-77207","aliases":[],"summary":"Null Pointer Dereference in PKCS#7 bundle with no certificates","details":"Libreswan has a null pointer dereference bug in the PKCS#7 handling code for IKE certificate authentication. When libreswan decodes an IKE CERT payload of type CERT_PKCS7_WRAPPED_X509, it guards the PKCS#7 blob with SEC_PKCS7ContainsCertsOrCrls() and then iterates the certificate list with SEC_PKCS7GetCertificateList(). The two NSS APIs disagree on a SignedData that carries a CRL but no certificates: ContainsCertsOrCrls() returns PR_TRUE (there is a CRL), so the guard passes, but GetCertificateList() returns NULL (there are no certificates). This causes libreswan to dereference a null pointer leading to a crash and restart. A malicious IKE_AUTH packet can trigger this bug, meaning the peer does not need to be authenticated. No remote code execution is possible. Continued exploitation can cause a denial of service.","categories":["Unclassified"],"product":"libreswan","vendor":"The Libreswan Project","ecosystem":null,"affected_ranges":[{"source":"CVE List","source_url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-77207","source_modified_at":"2026-10-16T15:31:53.986Z","fetched_at":"2026-10-23T18:48:36.087640Z","product":"libreswan","vendor":"The Libreswan Project","versions":[{"version":"4.7","status":"affected","lessThanOrEqual":"5.3.2","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"5.4","status":"affected","lessThanOrEqual":"5.4","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"5.3.3","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"},{"version":"5.4.1","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"}],"defaultStatus":"unaffected"}],"fixed_versions":[],"cvss":7.5,"severity":"High","kev":{"listed":false},"epss":{"probability":0.00339,"percentile":0.26118,"score_date":"2026-10-23"},"published_at":"2026-10-13T21:28:19.219Z","modified_at":"2026-10-16T15:31:53.986Z","provenance":[{"source":"CVE List","url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-77207","fetched_at":"2026-10-23T18:48:36.087640Z","source_modified_at":"2026-10-16T15:31:53.986Z"},{"source":"EPSS","url":"https://api.first.org/data/v1/epss?cve=CVE-2026-77207","fetched_at":"2026-10-23T18:42:43.628194Z","source_modified_at":"2026-10-23"}],"sources":["CVE List","EPSS"],"references":[{"source":"CVE List","url":"https://libreswan.org/security/CVE-2026-77207/CVE-2026-77207.txt","tags":["vendor-advisory"]},{"source":"CVE List","url":"https://libreswan.org/security/CVE-2026-77207/","tags":["patch"]}],"locations":[],"motoko_assessment":{"status":"requires_architecture_review","automatic_remediation":false},"cve_state":"PUBLISHED","cvss_source":"CVE List","ssvc":{"exploitation":"none","automatable":"yes","technical_impact":"partial","assessed_at":"2026-10-16T15:14:50.209248Z"},"classification":{"method":"product-first software-layer rules","rules_version":"2.1","matched_on":null,"confidence":"unknown","reviewed":false},"change_timestamp":"2026-10-16T15:31:53.986Z","content_hash":"6deee39b2c4e522b858562d262940ec37496f3001dfd1369edca130cfeac91d3"}}
