{"schema":"threatline.record/2","record":{"id":"CVE-2026-106072","aliases":[],"summary":"A flaw in Node.js TLS hostname verification allows a certificate with only a DNS SAN to authenticate an IP endpoint when the client connects using a non-canonical IPv4 spelling, such as `0177.0.0.1`, ","details":"A flaw in Node.js TLS hostname verification allows a certificate with only a DNS SAN to authenticate an IP endpoint when the client connects using a non-canonical IPv4 spelling, such as `0177.0.0.1`, `0x7f.0.0.1`, `2130706433` or `127.1`.\n\n`tls.checkServerIdentity()` did not classify these hosts as IP addresses, but normalized them to their canonical form and matched the result against the certificate DNS names. A certificate containing `DNS:127.0.0.1` and no `IP Address:127.0.0.1` SAN was therefore accepted, while the same certificate is correctly rejected for `127.0.0.1`. Exploitation requires a certificate with a numeric DNS SAN issued by a CA trusted by the client, and a platform resolver that accepts these spellings, such as glibc.\n\nThis vulnerability affects Node.js **26.x**, **24.x**, and **22.x**.","categories":["Runtimes & languages"],"product":"node","vendor":"nodejs","ecosystem":null,"affected_ranges":[{"source":"CVE List","source_url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-106072","source_modified_at":"2026-10-23T16:15:05.783Z","fetched_at":"2026-10-23T18:42:43.628194Z","product":"node","vendor":"nodejs","versions":[{"lessThanOrEqual":"22.23.3","status":"affected","version":"22.23.3","versionType":"semver"},{"lessThanOrEqual":"24.22.0","status":"affected","version":"24.22.0","versionType":"semver"},{"lessThanOrEqual":"26.12.0","status":"affected","version":"26.12.0","versionType":"semver"}],"defaultStatus":"unaffected"}],"fixed_versions":[],"cvss":6.7,"severity":"Medium","kev":{"listed":false},"epss":{"probability":0.00306,"percentile":0.22305,"score_date":"2026-10-24"},"published_at":"2026-10-23T16:15:05.783Z","modified_at":"2026-10-23T16:15:05.783Z","provenance":[{"source":"CVE List","url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-106072","fetched_at":"2026-10-23T18:42:43.628194Z","source_modified_at":"2026-10-23T16:15:05.783Z"},{"source":"EPSS","url":"https://api.first.org/data/v1/epss?cve=CVE-2026-106072","fetched_at":"2026-10-24T18:03:20.872036Z","source_modified_at":"2026-10-24"}],"sources":["CVE List","EPSS"],"references":[{"source":"CVE List","url":"https://nodejs.org/en/blog/vulnerability/october-2026-security-releases"}],"locations":[],"motoko_assessment":{"status":"requires_architecture_review","automatic_remediation":false},"cve_state":"PUBLISHED","cvss_source":"CVE List","classification":{"method":"product-first software-layer rules","rules_version":"2.1","matched_on":"vendor and product","confidence":"heuristic","reviewed":false},"change_timestamp":"2026-10-23T16:15:05.783Z","content_hash":"5e02697135fb6ab0fb17766a584008f6b48decbd320d0ea6c09ddefa9a0f0be0"}}
