{"schema":"threatline.record/2","record":{"id":"CVE-2026-100650","aliases":["GHSA-p6g9-7v3x-m8mv"],"summary":"vLLM before 0.29.0 Resource Exhaustion via Unbounded Media Materialization","details":"vLLM through 0.29.0 fetches and fully materializes remote or inline media before enforcing its documented media controls (the VLLM_MAX_AUDIO_CLIP_FILESIZE_MB compressed-audio size cap, default 25 MB, and the per-modality --limit-mm-per-prompt item limits). Across four ingress paths — the shared media-acquisition layer (HTTPConnection.get_bytes()/async_get_bytes()), the chat completions audio_url/base64 path, the batch speech runner, and the Rust frontend POST /tokenize route — the server reads the entire HTTP response body, base64-decodes the inline payload, or spawns one fetch/decode task per media part, and only then applies the limit (or, on some paths, never applies it). A remote attacker can therefore cause the API server or batch-runner process to allocate memory and consume outbound bandwidth proportional to an attacker-chosen body size or media item count before the request is rejected, resulting in pre-inference memory and bandwidth exhaustion (denial of service). The chat and batch surfaces require an API key when one is configured; the Rust frontend /tokenize route is unauthenticated by design. There is no code execution or data disclosure impact.","categories":["Unclassified"],"product":"vllm","vendor":"vllm-project","ecosystem":null,"affected_ranges":[{"source":"CVE List","source_url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-100650","source_modified_at":"2026-10-01T11:06:44.741Z","fetched_at":"2026-10-23T18:52:38.922436Z","product":"vllm","vendor":"vllm-project","versions":[{"version":"0","status":"affected","versionType":"semver","lessThan":"0.29.0"},{"version":"0.29.0","status":"unaffected","versionType":"semver"}],"defaultStatus":"unaffected"}],"fixed_versions":[{"source":"CVE List","source_url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-100650","source_modified_at":"2026-10-01T11:06:44.741Z","fetched_at":"2026-10-23T18:52:38.922436Z","package":{"name":"vllm","ecosystem":null},"version":"0.29.0","basis":"first unaffected version stated in the CVE record"}],"cvss":7.1,"severity":"High","kev":{"listed":false},"epss":{"probability":0.00653,"percentile":0.50684,"score_date":"2026-10-23"},"published_at":"2026-09-26T13:23:20.418Z","modified_at":"2026-10-01T11:06:44.741Z","provenance":[{"source":"CVE List","url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-100650","fetched_at":"2026-10-23T18:52:38.922436Z","source_modified_at":"2026-10-01T11:06:44.741Z"},{"source":"EPSS","url":"https://api.first.org/data/v1/epss?cve=CVE-2026-100650","fetched_at":"2026-10-23T18:42:43.628194Z","source_modified_at":"2026-10-23"}],"sources":["CVE List","EPSS"],"references":[{"source":"CVE List","url":"https://github.com/vllm-project/vllm/security/advisories/GHSA-p6g9-7v3x-m8mv","tags":["exploit"]},{"source":"CVE List","url":"https://github.com/vllm-project/vllm/commit/752a3a504485790a2e8491cacbb35c137339ad34","tags":["patch"]},{"source":"CVE List","url":"https://www.vulncheck.com/advisories/vllm-before-0.29.0-resource-exhaustion-via-unbounded-media-materialization","tags":["third-party-advisory"]}],"locations":[],"motoko_assessment":{"status":"requires_architecture_review","automatic_remediation":false},"cve_state":"PUBLISHED","cvss_source":"CVE List","ssvc":{"exploitation":"poc","automatable":"no","technical_impact":"partial","assessed_at":"2026-09-30T14:49:40.322864Z"},"classification":{"method":"product-first software-layer rules","rules_version":"2.1","matched_on":null,"confidence":"unknown","reviewed":false},"change_timestamp":"2026-10-01T11:06:44.741Z","content_hash":"d97c2a590dcd513d9a3a44abb39136e481efbee7efe9f9f09eb894d14a65ead8"}}
